Wool Sculpting
Needle-felting, wool-sculpting, fiber art, wool-art, felted-art... the list goes on and on. This quirky artform goes by many different names. If you are wondering how to turn sheep's wool into fuzzy little friends keep reading...
Needle felting is begun by rolling a small amount of wool and stabbing it with a barbed needle. When the wool is stabbed with the felting needle it starts the sculpting process of the fibers.
By stabbing the wool over and over it continues to pull wool into itself and the wool, with its tiny scales, locks together. Continued stabbing and turning results in a gradual firming of the structure.
Once there is a basic shape to start with, wool is added where it is needed to form a woolen friend.
Each piece takes many hours to create and is truly unique.
Wool sculpting may seem like a primitive way to create a structure but the results can be outstanding. Much like pottery each piece evolves into its own with every touch of the hand.
To ensure your woolen friend stays looking good please handle with care and keep out of the reach of children and pets.
